Minor Games
Minor games require:
- Little, if any equipment
- Can be played almost anywhere
- Players use a variety of skills and little prior knowledge
Minor Game Teaching Assignment
For most PHE classes you have been told what games to play and how to play them…Now is your chance! You are now given an opportunity to create your own game and rules. You and a partner are going to create a new minor game, or adapt an old one, and teach it to the class. The game must last at least 25 minutes including a warm up activity (related to your game).

Gather equipment for floor hockey, handball, soccer, and basketball. Divide the class into two teams and sit them on benches along the wall at Half. Teacher will yell out a number between 2-5 to indicate how many players on each team. The teacher will also throw out the chosen equipment (soccer ball, hockey ball, handball, or basketball) and the respective number of players from each team will run out and play the respective sport.
Variations: Play until a point is scored, a set point goal, or time limit.

Lock It Up
This game is a combination of Kickball and Dodgeball. Three crash mats or combination of nets can be used at 3 different corners of the gym. First base is the diagonal corner from the kicker, 2nd base is straight across to the opposite corner from 1st base, 3rd base is the diagonal corner from 2nd base and Home is straight opposite corner from 3rd base. A player from Team A (batting team) must kick a ball forward and run to 1st base, and if chosen to 2nd, and if chosen to 3rd, and if chose to Home to score a run. The player may wait at a base for however long or lock himself/herself/theirself in between two nets in the centre of the gym if not able to reach a base safely. To get players out, Team B (fielding team) must tag a runner (dodgeball style) in between bases or catch a kick in the air. After 3 outs, fielding and batting team switch. |

Crazy Skittles
Line up 5-10 skittles on both ends of the gym behind a set line (crease). Divide the class in 2 and designate 2 goalies to protect the skittles. Teams must work together to knock down the other team's skittles. Offensive teams cannot enter the crease to knock down skittles or to gather equipment. Once a skittle has fallen (due to opposing or own team) the skittle must be moved off to the side for safety.
Variations: Handball rules, soccer rules, ultimate rules.

Mosh Ball
This game is California Kickball meets Dodgeball. Team A lines up on the wall at one end of the gym with 3 random kickers in the middle. Team B (in the field) pitches 3 separate balls to the kickers. Once kicked forward, Team A must run to the opposite side of the gym, touch the wall, and run back to their original wall to be safe. While Team A is running, Team B is working together to get players on Team A out dodgeball style. Team B CANNOT run with the ball, but must move the ball by passing. Team A players who get hit are eliminated and players who make it back safely to their wall get to kick again. Runs are scored continuously until all players are eliminated. Reduce the number of balls as required once players are eliminated.

Everyone starts by facing the teacher at the front of the playing area. The teacher yells a word (PE, BALL, YES, RUN, FAST, WOW) and the students must spell out the word using their bodies.
Variation: Students into groups of 4-5, 1/2 class, whole class

Meatball Pass
Two teams each in their own line lie shoulder to shoulder on the floor with their hand up in the air. Two minutes on the timer. Teacher yells 'GO' and the person at the start of each line will hand the medicine ball to the hands of the next person in line. When the last person in the line gets the ball they get up, run to touch the ball to the wall, and then runs back to their team laying down at the START of the line as the NEW starting passer. Game repeats. Teams are trying to accrue as many points as possible in the 2 minutes by touching the ball to the wall. HOWEVER, points drop to ZERO if the ball is dropped.

Chuck the Chicken
Team A throws the chicken to a random part of the gym and then immediately huddles up and one student form the team must run laps around their huddled team counting the number of laps completed. Meanwhile, Team B must run to the thrown rubber chicken, line up in a single file line and pass the chicken 'over the head' and 'through the legs' alternating down the line until the last team member in the line receives the chicken. This last team member then chucks the chicken to a new spot in the gym and repeat with the teams switching roles. The number of laps scored before the chicken is chucked is the team's score.
