- Sending/reacting to misleading signals.
Slide Tag
Divide the class into teams. Choose one team and have them make four rows of lines one in front of the other each about 10 feet away from each other. Each line should have 2 players. Have the rest of the class line up on the end line facing the 4 lines and their objective is to get from their end to the other end without being touched by the defenders. The defenders can only slide along their line and can reach out to tag other players without coming off their line. Once a player passes them safely they can no longer tag that player. If a player is able to move his way through the 4 lines and reaches the other end they have to pick up a bean bag (only one) and go around the outside of the court established by pylons and place the bean bag in their teams basket at the start. The player can now try again to get to the other side and retrieve a beanbag. If a player is tagged by a defender, they must exit the court on the left or the right and go back to the start again. Change the defenders every five minutes. |

Got Your Back
Everyone is for themselves and wears a pinnie tucked into their waistband. In 3 minutes try to gather as many pinnies from classmates as possible. Can also play so that when your pinnie gets stolen you become a pair. When your pair steals a pinnie you become a 3. |
|
Dog Catcher
Students are split into the 4 corners of the gym. Approx. 10 students start in the centre of the gym (the dog catchers) *identified by pinnies*. The students in the corners (the dogs) MUST run to another corner on the teacher's whistle while the 'dog catchers' attempt to tag them. Once tagged, the 2 students will switch roles and the dog catcher will hand over his/her/their pinnie. |
|
Cat and Mouse
Students sit in partners scattered throughout the gym. One partner is chosen to start as the 'chaser' (cat) and the 'chasee' (mouse). The chasee runs away and can get free by sitting down next to a seated pair. The student that is seated furthest away from this newcomer NOW becomes the chasee and must get up and run away from the original chaser. If the chaser is able to tag the chasee then the roles change just like traditional tag. Variation: Students lay on the backs or stomachs |
|
Rock, Paper, Scissors War
Students get into groups of 4. One pair goes to the opposite side of the gym from the other pair - facing each other. The first student of each pair runs straight forward towards each other. Once they meet, play Rock, Paper, Scissors (shoot). The winner advances forward towards the opponents line. The loser must run back to his/her/their own line. The second student of the 'losing' pair must run straight forward to cut off the student of the 'winning' pair. Once they meet, play Rock, Paper, Scissors (shoot) again. The goal is the cross your opponents line and to stop your opponents from advancing forward. |
|
Heads or Tails
Have students partner up and lay on their stomachs facing each other along the centre line. Designate a student as 'heads' and the other 'tails'. Teacher will toss a coin and announce HEADS or TAILS. Whoever is announced will be 'IT' and must chase their partner for 15 seconds or until tagged. Reset on the centre line and toss another coin. |
|
Assassin Dodgeball
3 versions: Solo, Partners, or Teams of 4-5 Eliminate players by hitting them shoulders and below, direct hit with a dodgeball. Can play so that everyone is for themselves or students work together in pairs or pairs of pairs. Use tasks to get eliminated students back in the game (eg. 5 jumping jacks, then re-enter the game). |
|
All For One Dodgeball
Regular dodgeball rules but without any boundaries. There are no teams and students can travel anywhere in the gym. If a student gets hit (shoulders and below, direct hit) they then sit down. When the student that hit them gets hit and sits down, then the original person is back in the game. OR once a person is hit and sitting down, they are able to return to the game if the ball comes to them and they are able to hit someone who is still standing. |
|
Birdie Tag
In groups of 3 with 1 as 'IT' (This player has the birdie). All the "IT" players start in the middle of the gym while the others scatter. "IT" player pursue ONLY there own group members. Once struck by the birdie, the player must complete a task (eg, sit up, push up, burpee) to re-enter the game. |
|
Bodygaurd Tag
Using the whole gym, in groups or 3, students play tag with the following roles: Chaser-tries to tag the Leader Leader-tries to avoid being tagged by the Chaser Bodygaurd-has their hands on their hips and tries to protect the Leader from the Chaser Variation: Have the students hold hands to create a circle. The leader can be either in the centre of the circle or apart of the circle. |
